Beeb Strictly ahead in ratings
By CHRISTINE JENNINGS October 09, 2006 THE BBC came out tops in the battle for Saturday night viewing figures as their autumn schedule proved a big hit.
Action-packed drama Robin Hood beat Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway by more than a million viewers while the new series of Strictly Come Dancing plus live football saw off competition from ITV1.
The celebrity dance show, which saw newsman Nicholas Owen and dance partner Nicole Cutler get the boot, was watched by 8.8m while the second instalment of The X Factor, which named the final 12 acts, attracted 8.4 million.
The ITV1 reality show, with judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne, received the highest peak viewership of any show on Saturday with 9.9 million.
The controller of BBC1 Peter Fincham said: āIām thrilled that the schedule proved such a hit with BBC1 audiences.
āA very strong start for Robin Hood was followed up by an exceptional return for Strictly Come Dancing.ā
